It is not bad to quit your job if your boss is a jerk. If you can't stand it anymore and it's affecting your work than you could quit but remember that you could get a new job where the boss is worse or acts inappropriately ( sexual or intolerance). If you do quit your job you really should think about lining another job before you quit this one. It's weird but you have a better chance getting a job if you already have one. Obviously don't say why you are leaving your present job to the interviewer just say you're looking for a new experience or something.
Honestly there have been two times when I thought I was going to find a new job and give my two weeks notice. Me I like the location of where I work and that it's only a 20 minute drive. So I decided that it was worth the irritation at work and stay there.
The best way to decide if you should really quit or not is to write a pro and con's list just to see if your job goes more on the con's side of the list. Just remember that it's fifty-fifty on whether you'll have a better work environment or not. Good luck and if you wanna talk you could e-mail me or YIM. Bye!!

Most bosses are jerks at times.I wouldn't quit unless I had a better one lined up.However,it would look very strange on your job application "reason for quitting" answer: "Boss was a jerk".
Why not do as I do.every day when I go in to work,I say "today is going to be a good one",and I try to ignore the boss. But I don't know your situation. You may have to see him/her all day long.

It is bad to quit because your boss is a jerk. But, it is perfectly alright (in fact quite sensible) to look for a new job because your boss is a jerk. And it is fine to quit your job because you got a new better job (you don't have to say why it's better).
People who might hire you someday want to know that you can do your job under difficult circumstances. You can react to problems logically by trying to change things (in this case changing jobs) but you can't act emotionally (screw you, I quit!).

I'd say it depends on how long you have with the company. I worked for some real jerks in the phone co. but when you have 20+ years with a company it's not good to quit. You are looking at losing retirement money and besides you're too old to start over somewhere else.
