1. You can raise your idle a little by poping the hood and tweaking the idle cable. You tighten it ever so slightly, and put the idle at like 1000.
2. Also get a check up and ask them about it, b/c sometimes you need a tune-up, carbs cleaned, etc.
My friend and I used to always adjust our idles on our separate Volkswagons. Real Easy.

That "Check Engine" light flashing is the computer telling you that it has detected a misfire. It wants you to stop driving the car until you repair it.
The fact that the car is misfiring is an indication that the engine is introducing raw unburned fuel into the Catalytic Converter. Continuing to drive it this way will "poison" the cat. It then will no longer be able to perform as designed, and will also fail emissions testing.
If you are capable of some mechanical ability, replace the spark plugs and possibly wires. This should repair the problem, though you could also need one or more ignition coils.
The Check Engine light will then need to be turned off. You can ask the fellows at the local discount parts store to do that for you after the repairs.

It could be a number of things. Check the obvious first, vacuum lines, spark plug wires & plugs. A missfiring cylinder will cause an engine to shake. Did anyone switch some plug wires around?

Sounds like it could be a vacuum line or a spark problem. Take it over to autozone and they will hook up their OBD II scanner for free and tell you exactly what is wrong since the check engine light is on. Then you can go from there. HOPE THIS HELPS!!

Vacuum line came off the intake somewhere and the engine is sucking air.
