Futuristic world where everything is stongly regulated and controlled and how the main character wants to break out of it. Kind of like 1984 meets Matrix.

Great movie.

It is a "big brother" esque future. The government decreed that emotions were the cause of humanities problems (war, prejudice, etc) so they make the populace take a drug called "librium" that supresses your emotional responses. Any emotion provoking artifact (music, art, etc) is considered a sense crime (and not taking the librium) and illegal.

The enforcers of this are the Grammaton Clerics, who hunt down sense crimes, heretics, etc. The movie follows the top cleric, John Preston, who in the past had even turned in his wife for a sense crime and she was executed. His partner does the same (gets off the librum and begins to "feel") and is killed, but Preston begins to wonder what life is like off of Librium, esp. once he starts talking to one of the heretics. He begins to feel emotion, but also has to cover his tracks from his new by the book partner, his superiors, and even his own kids. He promises to deliver the rebel leaders to the government, while he really plans on contacting them and plotting with them to overthrow the government.

Plus, the gun-kata fights are just way cool :)

A friend recommended the movie when it came out on dvd, and was glad I watched it (got a copy myself). When word came down that Bale was going to be Wayne/Batman, I felt it was a great choice considering how he played Preston in this movie.

I'm guessing youre talking about the movie. I haven't seen it yet, but Christian Bale is in it so it must be good.
I think it's about something futuristic. Nah.... I really don't know.
