I listen to a lot of rock, and my parents are mainly okay with that, but they won't let me buy any 'explicit' songs on itunes, which is understandable. But There are some songs that are listed as explicit that have no swearing in it, and they're cool with that and let me buy them as long as I can prove there's no swearing. But I went to buy 'Getting Away With Murder', which is listed as explicit, with no swearing, but they won't let me get the song because they say it's written in a 'literal sense', even though it's not. How can I convince my parents to let me get the song? It's been my favorite song since a few years ago, and I've had it on my MP3 player, but recently I got an ipod, and they won't let me add it. What can I do to get the song, and concince them it's okay?

Some people have mentioned searching for a clean version, but as I stated before, there is NO swearing in the song. I have tried proving to my Dad (my mom says it's fine, the dads the one saying no) that it's not literal, but all he sees is the word 'murder', and he won't let me. I think the thing is that he knows most Papa Roach songs, doesn't care for them, but knows them, and knows that he swears quite a bit in most of his songs. So I honestly don't know what to do. I'll try a few suggestions so far, but right now I'm not having much luck..

Tell them that in 1962 the big hit song was "Mack the Knife" sung by that teen idol sensation Bobby Darin. It was a song about a guy who sneaked around and stabbed people and their blood oozed out. And the people he killed are mentioned in the song.
I SURVIVED 1962, and haven't killed anybody yet.
How old are your parents, and I'll find a terrible song that they loved at age 16.
Song lyrics don't negatively influence the well balanced mind.
SHOW your parents that you have a well balanced mind and are interested in music AND school work AND community service AND church, AND household chores...blah blah blah.

My parents hate the music I listen to, espectially my mother. She never really listens to the lyrics, all she hears is the guitar and the massive drum playing. I like to listen to my music loud, so I guess you can see where the problem comes in. I guess for your problem, get song facts, see what the song is really about. It annoys me (no offense to your parents) when people think that bad things happen because of music. And yes, that is a good song. Good Luck with that.
Peace and Happiness.

My mom is exactly like that!!!!!! If you like hard core rock than I suggest getting AFI's c.d. like I did. My mom wuz kind of sceptic though cuz some of their song names r Kill Caustic and The Killing Lights. Dont worry though they are totally ok and no swearing :)
