not a doppler. I know you can hear your baby's heart beat with a regular stethoscope ( like the doctor listens to your heart with) I know a doppler can pick it up as early as 9-10 weeks.

Umm, never had a doctor use a stethoscope, but a doppler. It's a little machine (size of a walkman) and they put gooey stuff on your belly and find the heart rate and it calculates the heart rate. That was around 8 weeks for me. I guess a stethoscope could be used at a really old clinic or a free clinic that doesn't have modern equipment. Good Luck!

Sometimes during pregnancy you can hear your baby's heart beat using a stethoscope. You have to be atleast 25 weeks along to be able to hear it. Sometimes you wont be able to hear it using this method though. If you want to hear your baby's heart beat you can purchase one of those at home doppler things that your dr uses in the office. They cost around $20 at walmart and target. You can also purchase them online. I am 28 weeks along and tried using the stethoscope, but was unable to hear the heart beat using it. I guess it all just depends on the individual and the size of the baby to be able to hear it.

I'm 20 weeks and still cannot hear it (unless the Dr. uses a Doppler machine).

I bought one of those fetal heartbeat things at Babies-R-Us which is similar to using a stethoscope...but no luck hearing it yet...However, on the box it says that you should be able to hear it at the beginning of the 3rd trimester.

Some nurses or doctors can find it at 9 weeks but it is difficult. From 12 weeks on, it can be consistently located.

If you decide to try to hear your baby's heartbeat at home, don't buy one of those $40 units at the baby store. Rent a doppler instead. You can find the baby's heartbeat pretty easily with the doppler.
