hmm. I will have to qualify your statement. "Mainstream music was better in previous eras." That is absolutely correct.

There is still quality music today, just not in the spotlight. I would argue that Tool is one of the best bands ever to exist, and they just put out a record last year. Of course, your average MTV-viewer has no idea who Tool is, and sadly, does not care.

While it is easy to pine over a time of Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, etc..., the truth is, both bad and good music exist in any decade. In our current times, the good music is just a little harder to find, and the bad music is a little harder to ignore.

That's my two cents anyway.

yes im 19 years old and i favor older music over newer music. i used to listen to english music and i loved music from the 50's to the 80's. and now i only listen to arabic music but the same can be said for that as well. i dont know why its better i guess they put more thought into it. it seems like nowadays anyone can write a song about nothing and get famous.

People will always say this as they get older. I am 39 and I am beginning to really hate all of the current music and long for the Big '80's. I still find new groups and music I like but I still love the music that was around when I was a teen. It'll happen to you one day.

Yeah, I'm 16 and I usually listen to stuff that's from the 90's and 80's. I might listen to some new music but mostly old.

I listen to both new and old music, there is a lot of great older music, but right now I like new music better, though the mainstream music right now sucks, but the underground music is great.

new music sucks, there are no real musicians in pop now, in the 70's hell yea. I don't listen to any mainstream music, just underground stuff i guess, and jazz of all kinds. I had your issues when i was 20 something then i went to the past and found much better music. peace

Yes.
bands werent in it for the money, like they are now. they were genuinely just doing what they loved doing, not trying to conform the the record companies standards.
i think a character from the movie "Almost Famous" described it best: "Rock and roll is a lifestyle, and a way of thinking."
you just dont have that anymore.
