I do not understand why hiring managers and human resources are requiring a 10 sec. resume. This IS NOT logical even considering the tons of applications they receive for each job posting. Also, I truly hate the fact that government and private agencies are asking for ages, whether it is straight out, or being subtle by asking the year a person has completed high school. They also want the statistical information as to what nationality I am, what color I am...and why should they care? It is my firm belief that these companies are using the affirmative action (which was voted down in Michigan this year) as an excuse to weed out those whom they do not wish to be bothered with. I'm 57 years old, & yes, I had a late start at college, but I have graduated with a law enforcement degree. However, there where still other requirements besides law classes. There is too much to explain here, but I think you will all get my drift. I'm broke and can't stay unemployed forever.

all companies are in business to make money...to create wealth for their owners by creating a product or service for which someone else is willing to pay. there is very little room for charity.

there are protections, however. and if you feel that your age is being unfairly discriminated against, you may call your local labor board and see if you have any recourse there.

be advised: just because you train yourself for a particular job, even to the point of gaining a degree, in no way does that obligate an employer to hire you. i'm over 50 myself, and if i tried to get back into law enforcement, eventhough i work out every day, in the greatest shape of my very active life, and took my degree with me, it's likely they wouldn't hire me on the spot, cuz as you know, handling bad boys on the street day-in and day-out is a hard life, and a young man's game...if for no other reason than it takes us so long to heal from a punch in the guts...

good luck to you. maybe you could explore other peripheral opportunities while you wait for a slot to open. it's always easier to find a job when you already HAVE a job!

Whether you realize it or not, all government agencies and companies in the private sector are required to report the nationalities of the people who work for them. I know, because I was responsible for doing that type of reporting.

As far as age goes, I didn't care if they knew my age or not.

Resumes many times give information that the employer needs to decide whether or not they will contact the person for an interview. I've been on that committee as well.

BTW, I'm 58, and none of the above has ever bothered me.

Just keep trying and hopefully you'll get a job soon.

Good luck!
