seriously becuase back in the day black men didnt have access to white women like they do now, so they go for the next best thing light skinned its the closest thing to being white. remeber white was seen as better.and blcks believed that. also nowaday i think black people have a problem accepting dark it was looked down upon. i mean i hear so many black people saying im not from africa so why do they call us african americans. black people from africa and the continent itself is looked down upon and is seen as bad, so they want no part of it, if africa was seen as how europe is, do u know how many black people would have no problem saying they are from there!!!!! the light skinned thing stems from racism!!!!!

I don't believe that is the case anymore, otherwise all of the tanning salons would be out of business. But your point is well taken, and it is probably because long ago, the wealthy daughters were fair skin because they never had to leave their castles to work, therefore never getting a tan (which they believed would eventually cause wrinkles earlier). On the flip side, the poor daughters had to go onto the fields to help farm the land, or other outdoor chores. Naturally, common men would fantasize about the fair-skinned wealthy daughters, in their attractive dresses, which were generally untouchable by them. Thus the term "my fair lady."

I don't think that's true of all men. Beauty is a cultural thing. Europeans might like lighter skin better because historically lighter skin was a sign of wealth and success. After a while that becomes a cultural standard of beauty.

Because they see beautiful as being light skinned, if a girl has very dark skin they don't see dark as pretty. I have seen some of the most beautiful women to be very dark skinned women of color. Oh well there lost.

I am darker than my boyfriend... and he likes it that way.
He is 75% Italian and 25% caucasian.... and I am 100% black ( oh and very proud of it too)
