Firstly, the universe DOES have an end, it is NOT infinite. It would, however, be impossible for us to ever reach the end because time and space curve in such a way to make it impossible.

There's all manner of theories as to what shape the universe is - some scientists think it's shaped like a ring doughnut.

If you think about it, if the universe were infinite, it could never have a "shape". If it never ends, it would be impossible for anyone to judge shape.

Surely the shape is interesting in itself regardless of whether or not the universe has an end.

Do you mean no end - in time. Or do you mean no edge?

Evolutionary cosmology (Big bang) relies on the Copernican Principle: the universe has no edges and no centre—it looks everywhere broadly the same. This principle, it is important to note, is not a conclusion of science, but an assumption thought to be valid.

I believe this is a false assumption - the Big Bang has more holes than a Swiss cheese. The universe was created by God, and I suspect it is spherical.

I'm with the cosmologists on this one, it does have an end, granted it is probably expanding at a great speed and is probably more or less spherical.

olbers paradox... if the universe was infinite then there would be a sun at every conceivable point in the sky therefore the sky at night would be bright... or something like that anyway, too much tea and and too many late nights have beaten whatever education i had out of me..

I beleive that the universe is a sphere and we are inside the hollow of it.

As you most probably know the world is made of many layers.

the crust - which we sit on top of
Mantle - which the crust floats on hence earth quakes and valcanic explosions
The outer core - more mantle apparently harder and
The inner core - solid rock but hot, very hot

I beleive that we and the stars are sitting underneath the universes crust.

It's very round. Round . . . that's a nice sounding word. Round.

I suppose it is a hypersphere in a higher dimension but I'm not sure which one.

I think I'll call that object that's coming up fast "Ground". I wonder if it i friendly? (With apologies to Douglas Adams)

Doughnut shaped.

since shapes have to have boundaries and since space is infinite,
it stand to reason that there is no "shape" to the universe.

It's more of a sphere with the center being the point of the Big Bang

That's one of the questions cosmologists seek to answer. I think they are leaning toward a flat plane.
