you can make it by soaking rose petals in demineralized water, or you can buy it at some pharmacies, parfumeries or even at some oriental candy stores (it is used both for perfumes and for some sweets)

Hi:
Here's a recipe for rose water from a book "The Scented Room" by Barbara Milo Ohrbach.
16 ounces (2 cups) distilled water
2 ounces (1/4 cup) vodka
10 drops rose oil
1/2 cup fresh, deep-red rose petals.
You can also make lavender water inexpensively if you want - it is nice to use on bed linen or for ironing to give clothes a nice fragrance.
16 ounces distilled water
2 ounces vodka
8 drops lavender oil
Also, Florida water, which is also nice to spray on you on hot days as a refresher (especially if it has been refrigerated)
16 ounces distilled water
2 ounces vodka
6 drops bergamot oil
6 drops lavender oil
2 drops clove oil
I got essential oils from a site www.buyaromatherapy.com. For the rose oil type components, you can get a few similar fragrances from geranium rose (scented geraniums) and rose-moroc. I also got lime and lemon oils, and those were nice added in some of the mixtures.
If you make any of these mixtures, you might want to refrigerate them, or at least keep them in a cooler location. If you check out that website, or other sites that have essential oils, you can probably find more ideas for blending your own waters if you want. Hope this helps, and gives you some ideas.

Rose water is like a rose-flavored syrup that is commonly used in cooking arabic sweets and in arabic beverages. For instance, it is often used in lemonade in many arabic countries. It is a flowery sweet ingredient that doesn't taste too "sugary." While it is easily found in ethnic grocery stores, I noticed it at my local supermarket the other day in the ethnic foods section. If you have a Ralph's near you, they should carry it. It's a really unique flavor and I highly recommend experimenting with it in your cooking. Good luck!
