What people don't realize is that the embryos being worked on for stem cell research are just leftovers from IVF procedures and cannot be used without the donors consent. The way I see it is that the embryos are either going to be sitting in a freezer forever, or they're going to be used to save lives. I mean, people say that it is morally incorrect to use embryos for scientific research, and I can understand where they are coming from (barely...), but I, for one, find it morally incorrect to let people die or live paralyzed or without limbs when we can clearly do something to help them. By the way, don't give me any of your religious insults because I am religious, myself. Nothing like that can offend me as long as I know I have faith in god.

Okay, I realize that there are other ways to get stem cells other than embryos, but embryonic stem cells have the potential to become ANYTHING, while adult stem cells can't. Also, about the donor being the person that "would be" born and them "not having a choice," it's not as though that embryo is going to develop either way. It is going to sit in a freezer for years to come, amounting to nothing. It has no potential for human life.

Okay, yeah, it is wrong that embryos have to die, I know. If it was an embryo like, being pulled from a pregnant woman's stomach, I'd understand it, but these embryos WILL NOT DEVELOP. THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY THAT THIS EMBRYO WILL EVER BECOME A FULLY FUNCTIONAL HUMAN BEING.

To answer your question. Yes, a great many people believe in stem cell research. Myself included. What most don't know, is the "BIG SECRET." And that is that there is more than just one source for stem cells. Embrionic is just being used as a lightning rod/flash point. I am not for embrionic research. And, the true donor is the one who would have been born. So, getting that "Person's" permission is impossible. As an historian, I equate the ethics of embrionics to what Dr. Mengela was doing in the concentration camps of Nazi Germany. A little on the extreme I suppose, but that's the way my mind works.

An embryo, a living thing that is human in nature, is a person. You say, because I withold proper care it is not a person. An infant will die if it is not cuddled and fed special food, but that is not reason to call it "leftovers."

The moral thing, is to give it proper care.

No as a Muslim I believe in stem cell research, but it should not be used in negative manner/unethical use. It should be used for benefiting the humanity.
