you actually put a stamp on stamped mail. metered mail is ran through a machine for the postage.

Metered mail is weighed and then the postaged is scanned on the package or letter. According to the weight of the package is how much the postage will be. Stamped is when you actually use a stamp.

Stamped is mail with an actual postage stamp on it, metered is when you use a meter to stamp it. Most business have their on postal meter so its an ink copy, not an actual postage stamp.
