You mean on AM radio, right? Mostly because there are too many other stations transmitting on the same frequency which are closer to you or stronger. If the conditions were right and it was night and the only station transmitting was a 50kW station from LA, you'd be able to hear it. You should still have no problem picking up stations from the midwest or even Mexico or the Carribbean.

If you were really interested in doing so, you could buy some professional AM DX radio gear and build a beverage antenna. With the right set up you can null out the unwanted stations and probably pick up some stations from the west coast.

Maybe it's because the people in the atlanta area from the west coast lack philosophical mind.
