to refund the money. Can you contact the FBI and put a warrent out for their arrest and get them for grand larsony?

You could sue them, but depending on the amount of money, it probably wouldn't be worth it, and, of course, you'd have to prove that you actually overpaid and that you'd agreed on a different amount.

Unfortunately, I think at this point, small claims court may be the only way to go. Some of it would depend on the method of payment. If you paid someone in cash (REALLY BAD MOVE!!!!!) hope that you have receipts and try your luck in a small claims court. However, if you paid by check, you can ask your bank to put a stop payment on the original check. This way, you can re-issue a check for the right amount. A matter like this I don't think will catch the eyes of the FBI. they have bigger fish to fry. UNLESS of course, you're talking about over-paying by hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I would say that your best bet is to scrounge up all documentation and take it to small claims court. Unless, of course, you paid by check and it is still floating out there. :-D

Nope, sorry, you're stuck. The person may have thought the extra money was interest. If you overpaid them, that's your mistake. At least now you'll know to keep better records.

Try small claims court.
