sure it is absolutely fine ..In fact Ford designed the taurus transmission to handle this kind of act. They recomend accelerating to about 6000 rpm before putting it into drive for the best effect. No need to thank me, tell the guys at the garage hi for me...

i don't know how you define "Neutral Drops", but if you are referring to the practice of placing the trans in neutral during EXTENDED or prolonged periods at signal lights or rail road crossings, it won't hurt, though not necessary. If your definition is to place the trans in neutral, throttle up and "launch" with the increased RPM, no, it isn't a good idea. Hard on the transmission, the drive train and fuel economy.

Neutral drops are the fastest way to kill a car. It puts way too much strain on all moving parts. It might be fun but your going to be into BIG bills to get it fixed.

Go one step further.
Go as fast as you can in reverse, without hitting anything, and drop it into drive with the gas peddle to floor, and hang on!
It's called a "Button Hook".
Good luck.

You will burn out your transmission in no time.
If you want a new car, do it as much as possible.
