I keep my horse in the state IN. We are having a muddy season, this place where I am boarding my horse is muddy, the only place I can ride is in the small round pen. We do pay $150.00 a month to keep her here. She is with one other mare. But, I did board her at a place that I could ride and did have fun.And this place was still only $150.00. Now the place where I am boarding now is at a walking distance. NOw the one I did board at was 8 miles away. Now the ? is where should I board. At the place that is muddy and at a walking distance? or at the place that is far a away, but I can actully ride, and enjoy myself???

Maybe you can ask one of the boarding places if they can get some wood chips brought in to help with the mud. I used to keep my horses in Seattle, WA. We used wood chips in the paddock to absorb the moisture. Or you can also get bags of wood shavings and put them down in the paddock or stall area. I'm not quite sure if you are saying it is muddy where the horse is kept, or muddy in the riding areas. If there is an arena the boarding facility can have sand put down as well.

Wow- your board is cheap- I am paying $330 a month in WI.
How important is the distance? Will the farther place mean you will only ride once a week or so? 8miles is within biking distance, so it shouldn't be too bad.
I would stay at the closer one if it meant I could ride more.

Are you really not having fun at this place? I would stick out the month- see if your opinion changes. If you still do not like the new place, go back to the old one, as long as you can still ride often.

It is muddy season everywhere- you are not going to be able to avoid that. Do not let mud be a factor- it sucks for all horse owners.

8 miles isn't far. 50 miles is far. You can bum a ride from a family member to go 8 miles down the road. Or ride your bike. I'd move to the other stable.

That's pretty easy-the place where it's fun.If you cannot drive the 8 miles you might consider riding a bike if it is safe.$150 is quite a bargain I must add.

If you're not having fun, horses aren't worth it.

board at the one 8 miles away. If a roundpen is your only option, not only will you begin to hate riding, so will your horse.

Good luck!

I'd move to the other stable, eight miles isn't far, mine is 15 miles away. What good are all the facilities you are paying for if you can't use them?
