you should go back and find the waiter/waitress and give her a tip with an explanation. It would make he/she feel better as well as yourself.

Most of the time you are asked when you first place your order and are ask to pay upfront if you want to include a tip, I think this is crazy because you don't know what type of service you are going to get..I always decline. I like you rarely carry cash, but when you go out try to remember to just get a few dollars before you go so you will be able to leave a tip, if you feel that bad about it the next time you go in, if you see the waiter give him the tip then and remind him when you were in there so he doesn't label you as that cheap customer that did not leave a tip. But don't beat yourself up too bad about it, it happens.

You should go back and give the waiter a tip, especially if you recieved great service! Most servers make 2.13 an hour and live off their tips!
I never have cash either, I've never been to Ponderosa, but buffets will allow you to charge a few extra $ on your card and then they give you cash so that you can tip at the end.

Why didn't you leave a tip on your credit card? I think most places waiters/waitresses are used to credit card tips now-a-days. I used to work at a restaurant where people would buy a 1.29 drink on the credit card. Cash is a rarity!
I agree with every one else who is saying you shouldn't go back. They'll remember your face - you may not think they would, but they do! I know how it is when you have a rude customer you ALWAYS remember them, and so will most of the staff because that kind of news gets around in a restaurant.

I work at similar type place as a server.
We don't charge for the transactions on credit cards, so you probably should have walked back up to the cashier and just drawn cash from your card to leave a tip.
I have had many customers do this, and it's not a big deal.
But being the guy who stiffed the server IS.

That's the same as stealing from your server! Let me explain.
The IRS assumes that everybody tips at least 8% of their bill so they tax the server on that. The server that you stiffed not only provided you with excellent service that wasn't free but has also paid the government taxes off her paycheck on the tip you didn't give her. And plus-have you ever seen a server's paycheck? I don't know about where you live but in SC they get paid 2.13 an hour. I hope you felt like a real sneaky bad-as* . You sure got one over on her. Good for you!

people who do what you did are what makes us servers not want to give good service. you said you got good service and you still didnt tip, now that is just plain being a jerk .. no matter how poor you are.. i dont have much money being in college.. but i understand that we need to help our fellow man. If you dont have money to tip then dont eat out/order a pizza delivery/ ect. you shouldnt be spending the money in the first place.. go to taco bell or burger king. do to others as you want others to do to you...
