I understand that a team of Norweigan scientists tested the "invisible fart" hypothesis by going outside on a cold, windless day, pulling down their pants, and farting. The experiments proved without a doubt that farts can indeed be seen as puffs of (smelly) steam under the appropriate conditions.

There are two major factors that prevent you from seeing your farts in cold weather.
The first is that your clothing traps and disperses much of the warm gas, so not much of it is released into the cold air at once.
The second thing is the amount of gas this is released in a fart. One breath contains 10-100x the amount of gas released in a normal fart.
That said, if you were outside in cold weather (below -5C or 20F), your butt were exposed directly to the air, and you had a large fart you'd almost certainly see a fart cloud!

Can you see your breath if you exhale through 2 layers of clothing? Try farting in the snow naked and I bet someone will see it!

The reason you can's normally see a fart is because you (hopefully!!) have on underpants, pants, or a skirt. I'm sure if you ran outside butt-naked in freezing temperatures and farted someone would see it!!
