The anaesthetic used will vary, but the usual routine is an intra venous medication to make you sleep and gas to keep you asleep. The operation will not hurt, you will not feel anything whilst anaesthetised. After you will be sore but you will get painkillers to help that;

Sorry for that. You're gonna have to go through some operations I'm sure. They'll put you under in general anasthetic......it may hurt when you wake up and eventually the pain should go away. You're gonna have to take it easy for a while with that arm. Don't worry, you're in good hands with them docs. Best of luck to you.

Well yes u will need a general anathestic which it is generally safe,if you wasent fit enough the consultant would not put you under.I have never experienced this hou,but i have seen this operation a couple off times in my career.This surgery is safe,and the oucome off the surgery is very high,as long as you do what the Drs say you will be fine.Yes you will get pain off course you having surgery,take regular pain relief which the Drs will give you before you are discharged.Well good luck.
