Most major amusement parks (king's island, six flags, etc) have hotels near by to accommodate well-traveled guests. If you're on the east coast Southern Pennsylvania/Northern Maryland is a great choice. The distance from Baltimore to Philadelphia and then to Lancaster is only a couple hundred miles, and there's tons of reasonably priced hotels, stuff for families to do, and food choices. We were in that area for 10 days last summer and I was surprised at all there was to choose from.

stay home and do things around town, plenty of free stuff - museum of natural history in NY. (don't know where you are from).
