This means you contracted the human papilloma virus. It is very common and sometimes causes warts and cervical cancer. Men usually do not have any symptoms. There is a vaccine out now called gaurdicell that can prevent certain kinds of this virus. Your doctor will help you when your pap test comes back about treatment if you need it. Folic acid is very helpful in treating this virus also. Some women have absolutely no problem with it and others have to have cryo therapy where they freeze off the affected cells of the cervix. Your heath care provider will tell you what you need to do. Take care!

The person who just answered that HPV leads to herpes is wrong. HPV and the simplex virus that causes herpes are two totally different things. As well, HPV cannot be cured. It will always be in your body. However, it can become dormant and no longer be active anymore (meaning, in some strains of HPV, no more genital wart outbreaks. My best advice to you is to locate your nearest Planned Parenthood where they have pamphlets on all the various STI's that are out there, including HPV.

HPV is the human papiloma virus. I causes some types of cervical cancer. There is now a vaccination available against HPV. The nurse is indicating that they want to check your pap smear for signs of cervical cancer before they proceed to give you the treatment for HPV.

HPV is a disease that can lead to herpes, but it usually doesn't. HPV is far less serious for women than it is for men. In fact, HPV can be cured in most cases.
