Yes it's done by keyhole surgery called a laprascopic sterilisation.
A small incision is made just under you belly button it's about 1cm long.
Then they pump some gas into the abdominal cavity to create space so they can see what they're doing.
They insert a hollow, tube like instrument into the small insision and do the needfull down this.
It's done under a short acting local anaesthetic. You might have some discomfort for a day or two.
Hope this doesn't sound to scary!

I had the surgery a few years ago - they go through your bellybutton now so there is no scars, but you will be down for a few days. It is typically easier for a man to be done than a woman, but men have issues with their sterility taken away. If you do decide to have it done I would plan for a Friday procedure and take off of work on Mon and Tues to fully recover. You will need the days to relax and get back to normal. You can't see my scars unless you are trying to really look in the belly button - lol :-D

Yes, that is correct. I had my tubal ligation when I was 29, and it was done in the outpatient surgery department of a local hospital. They make three tiny holes in and around your naval. You'll wake up with nothing more than a couple steri-strips, and a large bandaid. The pain isn't bad at all. It feels like you've had your naval pierced. They just recommend that you spend 2-3 days in bed, and not do anything strenuous for about a week.

I can't tell you about the woman, but a vasectomy is a simple out-patient process that your doctor or urologist can do in his office. It takes about 30 minutes, has minimal scarring and pain, and he can go back to work quickly. Schedule it for a Thursday, take Friday and the weekend off to relax and recuperate, and don't do any heavy lifting for another few days. Check your insurance to see if it's covered - it should be - this is a lot cheaper than another baby for them.

Oh, yeah - get a couple of bags of frozen peas to use as ice packs. They conform well to odd shapes, and your husband will appreciate them.

Don't serve them for supper later, though - trust me on this!

Laparoscopy. Laser surgery, essentially, thru the belly button for a tubal ligation.
But even with that, you'll still have periods. Why continue bleeding once a month for another 15yrs if you aren't going to have children?
Get the UBT, keep your ovaries (and natural hormones) and be done with bleeding.
Otherwise, it's still less expensive and quicker recovery for your hubby to get done.
