I am hopeless with this type of work. I am aware that I can run up to 5 Ipods on 1 itunes but how do I avoid the same music from 1 syncing to the other and visa versa.

All you have to do is plug in one ipod and then go to the ipod menu on the itunes and where it says music press manually mange music instead of sync. This way you can drag songs from your playlist to your ipod.

I just went on vacation in Puerto Rico and went to an internet cafe one day to charge my iPod while checking email. Apparently someone had put iTunes on the computer I was using, so it asked me whether I wanted to clear my iPod's music library and replace it with the library stored in the computer's iTunes software. I said no, and it let me just charge the iPod (battery).

That being said, I'm not sure what you mean by "I want to run 2 ipods on 1 itunes" if you don't want them to have the same music library on them.

I had to do this exact same thing. It took me a while but I figured it out. Before you do these instructions, make sure you have a seperate playlist for each iPod.Here's how.
1. connect your iPod to the computer.
2. once connected, click on the pic of the iPod on the bottom of the screen.
3. select the playlists you wish for that iPod to update from.
do the same thing for your other iPod.

Yeah just select the option of manually sinc your iPod every time you plug it into your computer. In that way you can select the music you want in each of your iPods.

Good luck to you and happy 2007
