ok here's the problem the idiot that said to give your dog tylenol or ibuprofen needs to be shot!!!! this will KILL your dog. yes you can give aspirin but only your vet can tell you this and at what dose. too much can be harmfull and too little wont' do anything. this is why we take our animals to the vet!! they are the doctors we aren't. you can try some OTC stuff like MSM or putting your dog in with the warm water bottle should help too. but if she has torn her ACL which is what this may be, then you are gonna have to get your dog to the vet. one way or another take your beloved dog/companion to the vet. thx and hope this helps

I don't trust any of them. I have heard you can give baby aspirin, but that a slightly too high of dose can harm your dog.

Is she in pain? Can you move it in a full range of motion without any hinderance (to see if it is broken). She may have just pulled/ twisted it. Dysplasia shouldn't show up in just a day.

If you are pretty sure it is not broken (check up into the hip as well) then you would be ok with not going to the vet (though I strongly suggest scraping together the money and going) If it is broken, you want to go immediately because once it starts to set- you may have a permently gimpy dog.

What you could do is go in for an exam and options, they are usually about $40 for a quick diagnosis (and you can get pain meds then). If you say money is tight- they will give you the cheap options. Most also have payment plans as well.
I am a college student, I know about never having enough finances, but I always make sure that I can afford vet bills- it is a requirement for a responsible pet owner.
I have a $1400 cancer removal surgery on monday for my horse- I am just working 48hrs/ week plus school for a while, and have a payment plan worked out with the vet clinic.

You need to get her to the Vet.

Most animal hospitals will allow you to make payments if your unable to pay off the full ballance.

I would stay away from any kind of pain medications, although you can hold some ice or a heating pad on her leg. Make sure you check her for swelling, heat, or any cuts or bruises that could be causing the pain.

Hip dysplasia WILL be the death of your dog if not taken care of immediately.

What ever you do, DON'T give her aspirin, it may kill her. I have given my dogs ibuprofen (Tylenol in North America) in very small doses, even for a big dog. If you can't afford the vet this month, call them anyway and ask what they say about OTC meds...

You can give her a baby aspirin every four hours. Don't give a dog tylenol or ibuprofen. It's too hard on their stomachs. If you give a dog like that any medicine......only baby medicine. the baby aspirin should suffice.

The safest thing is buffered asprin. This will be gentle on her G.I tract, and help with her pain. Do not give Ibuprofen!
