Don't know. Got pregnant before I made the switch from the pill to the ring, but I've heard that there have been a few unexpected pregnancies on that, too.
I think that it has to do with the fact that you can take it out when you're having sex, but sometimes, I think that people leave it out for too long, and it allows your body to ovulate. It's hard to say, though.
I would talk to your doctor. The women I know who have tried it love it.

I used the nuva ring. First month using it I got pregnant ! Now I am 7 months pregnant! And it caused 11 days of bleeding as well once removed ( to allow for your period). If you dont want any children I would def. try something else. Luckily, I have a good guy and we have decided to raise this "nuva ring" baby together.

I was on the Nuva Ring for over a year and I loved it. It was a heck of a lot easier than the pill (I got pregnant on the pill). I couldn't feel it, my husband couldn't feel it and we never had a single pregnancy scare. I think my only complaint would be that it was a little difficult for me to remember when to take it out. I would highly recommend it though!

I hated it. My muscels would not tolerate it being there, so it moved to an uncomfortable position a few times a day. My doctor had also told me that my partner would not feel it during sex, but he did, and said it hurt to push up against it. The only good thing about it was that I did not get sick when I used it. I get very sick on the pill and the patch was terrible and my cycles are still messed up from it even though I stopped using it about a year ago.

I was interested in a change from the patch, so i asked my doctor about it, she basically talked me out of it, saying she has had alot of complaints and hasnt seen it to be a good advantage for women.
So i didnt go that route, i stayed on the patch.
(PS im 5 months preggo! ) hahahaha
