Well, America was still very young when Washington began his presidency. He was the first president and it was difficult to handle forming the backbone of an entire nation. He dealt with serious economy issues. First, you may know about the Whiskey Rebellion. The government had to get money somehow, so Alexander Hamilton proposed a tax on liquor. Naturally, the frontier farmers opposed it and went on strike. Once the dissent was quelled, the president had to find new methods of obtaining money. Another big problem was paying of war debts. The Revolutionary War was a huge burden on the new American economy, and Washington had to find a way to cut down on our debt. Washington favored Hamilton's plan for a Bank of the US. After that was created, so too was the United States Mint.

I am not sure how Washington handled the problem but had to deal with the growing population and their need for sewage and water.
