They have a sample population and they install boxes onto their televisions and it records when they turn the tv on and off.

signals from the tv's are put into a pc so they do it that way same 4 sky

nik nak is right ,only tnite i had a woman at my door doing a survey, and she said they put a numbers thing on your tv and everytime you change channels it rates what you are watching
