There is a racoon trapped between the bars of a store's window and the window itself. He has been there for almost 24 hours. ASPCA and animal control said they can't do anything. I'm afraid he might be hurt and theat of someone gets too close they could get bitten.

You could try calling a local zoo and see if they can send someone, you may have some luck there.

Usually the animal control will do something- such as kill it. Raccoons are considered urban pests now and most rehab centers or officals won't do anything to try to save them anymore b/c of the pest factor and disease transmission to humans and domesticated pets.
Animal control, in this area at least, will come and shoot it, and send it in for rabies testing.
He probably will bite someone if they come too close- animal control should know that and should go there to move him. Or they may be waiting until he does bite someone, and then can kill it and send it in for rabies testing (which they have to do if it bites).
Either way, it is a lose lose situation for urban raccoons in a tight spot.

As for the post below - DO NOT PULL HIM OUT YOURSELF!!! If you are not experienced in raccoon handling- you could get bit and end up with a disease or end up causing more problems. If you are determined to do it yourself- wear very thick gloves and grab the scruff of his neck- there really won't be one, but that is the only way not to get bitten.

Try the department of wildlife in your area. If that doesn't get you a response, call the local news station. If they do a "poor animal" bit on the critter, be assured that either the people who say they can't help him will suddenly become both able and highly motivated or that someone will step up to the plate who knows how to deal with it. Don't try to mess with it yourself--you need equipment and experience to deal with a 'coon--they are strong and very defensive when cornered and man oh man can they bite and scratch.

If nothing else drives people's actions, good and bad press will.

That is strange that no one will help you. I would try to take matters in you own hands. He got in some how so their has to be away out. If you think there is a way to take him out yourself that's what I would do. Try to reach you hand in and pull him out. Make sure you put something over his head so he cannot bite.

Also try to call the Fire Department. They might be able to help. The best of luck to you and the raccoon.
