We used live traps. We baited them with a piece of stale bread spread with peanut butter and molasses (we tried cat food once but caught a skunk, instead - not pretty!). Raccoons are not indigenous to my area and are also one of the top carriers of rabies and other diseases harmful to humans and domestic animals, so it is illegal to let one go once you catch it (it is also illegal to keep them for pets or to kill them yourself). Our local Fish & Wildlife guys would come pick them up when we called to say we caught one, and they would euthenize it and dispose of it.

I know we still have raccoons in our area because I see them every once in a while, but after setting traps all summer for about 2-3 summers in a row, word must have gotten out along the "raccoon grapevine" to avoid our place. We haven't had any raccoon damage for the last three years.

Hope this helps - good luck!

Dont leave any kinds of food out. If you have the trash can out back put cinderblocks over it or leave it in the garage.
You can always get safety traps and when these critters are caught you can safely release them somewhere else out in the wild.

Get a dog. Call animal control . Or purchase a Havahart live trap and do it yourself......take the little critter faaar way and release it. Also ask yourself what's so interesting about your yard....do you have something that draws them in???

Go to a sporting goods store and purchase Fox Urine. Sprinkle it around your perimeter, this should give them second thoughts... If that doesn't happen to work, you can also purchase humane traps at a sporting goods store as well. Bait, trap, and let go in an appropriate neighborhood park...

I use cannons, shoot across their bow....arrrrr!

check with the SPCA & Humane societies in your area, some will set safe traps or loan traps. If ye take away their food & water sources, leaky hosebib, garbage, etc. they will move along

It depends on where you live. I live in South Louisiana, so we just shoot pellet guns near them to scare them, but if you live in a nieghtborhood, try getting lids that close and fencing off your garden.
