You don't. Your body instinctually tries to increase it's temp to keep you warm from the outside temp, which in turn lowers your resistance to germs, making it easier to pick up viruses which result in the fever.

You dont get a fever from being in the cold. You get a fever from an infection. Being out in the cold doesnt make you sick either. It is the bacteria you pick up then touch your face and infect yourself that makes you sick. It just happens more in the winter because people are closed up and dont have their windows open and there isnt any fresh air to blow the germs away. ;)

I'm no doctor but i think your body is using all it's resources trying to keep you warm when ur out in the cold, so your defenses are down when germs come a calling. Then you get sick!
