IBM PC compatible is a class of computers which make up the vast majority of small computers (microcomputers) on the market today. They are based on the IBM PC design originated by International Business Machines (IBM). They use the Intel x86 architecture (or an architecture made to emulate it). Such computers used to be referred to as PC clones, though from the early 1990's on this has been contracted to simply PC. IBM-compatible is a historical term since IBM no longer manufactures personal computers. Furthermore, so-called “IBM-compatible” PCs use processors from Intel or AMD, thus relegating IBM’s own processors (found in many Apple and Amiga computers) to non–“IBM-compatible” status. It is still a short-hand way of designating—especially during the period 1981-1997—a computer generally similar to the original IBM PC, XT and AT. Pragmatically, the operational definition of "compatible" is now "capable of running the current edition of Microsoft Windows".
The original clones of the IBM PC were created without IBM's participation or approval. As the market evolved however, IBM derived a considerable income stream from license fees — companies who cloned the PC paid for licenses to use IBM patents that were in the PC design, to the extent that IBM's focus changed from discouraging PC clones to maximizing its revenue from license sales.
Most modern x86 server-class machines are essentially more robust versions of the modern desktop IBM PC compatible.

What all PC's you see if the manufacturer is IBM than it simply means a computer with Intel Mother Board & Microprocessor. It's a tieup between IBM & Intel moreover they were supposed to run Microsoft OS previously ( Majority of PC's are IBM clones...) other than this others use different M.Board & Microprocessors...i.e technologically different.....( like those named by others...)

That just means that certain hardware is compatible with that particular PC. Its not real important anymore, other then the fact that your computer is not a MAC, its an IBM-based system

IBM only first designed a PC , unlike MAC they give the design for public , which enabled
MSI , asus like companies and nvidia to make their own chipsets to control motherboard components..
so they are all called as IBM pc clones till now..
except for MAC,sparc etc.. but not a PC

the laptop or the interior maximum workstation presented through international employer Machines (IBM) delivered computing to the masses. previously to the laptop, computers have been housed in huge rooms and halls in laboratories, universities, government and massive organizational web content, Their fee or length did no longer justify their utilization as own computers. those that have been transportable and termed as domicile computers, (Sinclair ZX Spectrum, BBC Micro, Atari and so on.) lacked the firepower, and have been only costly toys and gaming machines related to a television. a chain of activities which made historic past - the introduction of Intel 8086, and 8088 processors, numeric co-processors like 8087, the working device CPM/DOS and MS-DOS delivered computing potential greater "own", and IBM marketed it as IBM laptop. while a product is in a position contained accessible, (like the ipad presently) clearly others will desire a pie of the marketplace. so as that they presented the IBM clones (for sure at a coupon tag than the pioneer) with the tag line "IBM nicely matched" meaning that each and every person classes and applications which run on the IBM laptop will run on them too. So IBM laptop grew to become into the benchmark and the term "IBM laptop nicely matched" grew to grow to be the tag line for different manufacturers.
