It is an excellent book about the traumas Dave Pezler faced as a little boy at the hands of his mother, the one person who should have been protecting it. It isn't an easy read though because he endured so much abuse and neither his father, his brothers or adults in his life did anything to help him until towards the end. It's also a hard book for those who have suffered child abuse themselves. That said, it's definitely worth a read because it's important to be aware of child abuse so we remember what millions of children endure every day and how we must work to protect them.

Unless you can't stomach mentions of or graphic-like scenes of abuse, I would highly recommend reading this book. I first read this book when I was 13, and I found it was a very good read. It's a great book about a little boy's courage and will to survive. It's very inspiring. If you read it and like it, you can also read other books about David and his life, such as "The Lost Boy", "A Man Named Dave", "The Privelige of Youth", and "Help Yourself". They are all very good books.

Yes, i thought that the book was good. It was a quick read because you just cant find a good ending spot it just goes on and on with horrible discriptions about his childhood... the book is also very sad and gross. I would recommend it.

A Child Called "It": One Child's Courage to Survive is David J. Pelzer's 1995 autobiographical account of his maltreatment as a child by his alcoholic mother, Catherine Roerva, who singled him out much more so from among her other children as an object of abuse. It's is a 5 star book for me! I love it! i have read all of his books and my favorite was this one (A child called "It".)READ IT!
A 1997 sequel, The Lost Boy, details Pelzer's experience in the foster care system. In 1999, the third book, A Man Named Dave was published, detailing his life as an adult. The three were compiled into a single book called My Story in 2002.

I would HIGHLY recommend this book. I have read it more than once and it is good every time. If you want a happy book, though, don't get it. It is very enlightening.

The book is very interesting, but disturbing and sad at parts, due to the abuse. I would recomend reading it unless discriptions of abuse make you queasy.
