It's impossible to say how long improvement will take because each person responds differently to any type of therapy. It's risky for any therapist to use hypnosis in the first session because there are some people who should not be hypnotised. For this reason the first session should be used by a competent therapist just to gather information. For hypnosis to work,it's necessary for people to go into a deep state of relaxation. For this reason,it's useful to use the second session just to teach relaxation techniques.Beginning with this session, tape recordings should be made so that you can practice what you are taught once a day at home.By the third session most people are ready to be given specific suggestions to overcome specific problems. However becoming more motivated is NOT a specific goal. You need to come up with very specific goals such as "I want to become super-motivated to lose xx number of pounds".With specific goals to work with, your therapist can help you significantly.

I think it's all in your mind. I know people that've gone for hypnosis for weight loss, and the hypnotist gave great ideas (image your favorite food. . .now imagine it covered in maggots and slime) but it seems to ultimatly be in your mind. . .so I guess how it works depends on the person and their attitude.
