cesar chavez, born in gadsden, az. fought for the rights of migrant workers. please note that he fought for wages and respect but the legal/illegal movement was not the issue at that time. if i remember correctly he led a wide boycott of table grapes because of the treatment of the workers and he famously went on a hunger strike to bring attention to his cause. in the early 90's, a group called Hair of the Dog did a song named "Hunger Strike" about chavez and he has a statue in Phoenix, az. there was a movement in az to have a cesar chavez day, but i don't remember how that turned out. cesar was an all around good egg and is a well respected figure in american history. hope this helps!
