You don't just need a microphone, you need:

Microphone (Shure, AKG, etc. will be good. You should be able to get a reliable mic for under $100.)

XLR cable long enough go get from your mic to the P.A.

A P.A. System.

So if you are in a band and you sing, you'll need something to amplify the microphone. Lots of people feel they need a mic pre-amp as well but if you're just starting you should be fine with a basic set up.

I have been in bands a long time and have found that overall a Shure 58 is the best bet it has good sound quality and you can beat the crap out of it. get the model without an on and off switch/ the switches always break and always in the off position. mine are full of dents and work fine. they sell for $100-150. If you wanna go wirless Samson make a nice unit with a Shure 58 head called Airline 77 about $300. hope this helps

so to sweetwater.com. They have all the microphones you could ever want. It depends on what kind of application your using it for. It you're using it to perform, they have different types for that. If you're using it to record in a studio, go with a studio conderser microphone. On the website they list all the prices and everything.

It mostly depends on your voice. If you tend to have a higher or mid range voice the Sennihezer (spelling) 835 is a good mic it runs about 100.00 Or you could go to a Neuman 1503 it runs about 600 dollars.
It really depoend on your budget and type of voice. I use the Senn 835 or Cad 90s.
