You could try Sugar Sugar Rune, a very cute magical girl anime about two young witches vying to become queen of the magical world they live in. To do this, they have to collect jewels from human hearts (the way they do this is by magic, and is bloodless) and whoever gets the most becomes queen.
Or, you may look into the Japanese version of The Powerpuff Girls--they took an American show many considered dumb and actually made it cool.
