I'm 14 and I'm going to be 15 in May. Is it too late for me to start basketball?

If you are talking about attempting to become and NBA player, the issue is not when you started but how ATHLETIC you are. There are plenty of players who were by many accounts considered late bloomers, Hakeem Olujawon didn't play until high school, and we all know the story of how MJ was cut from the squad. The thing is if you are an "athlete" (i.e. can run fast or jump high)then you will be a "natural" at most sports, including basketball, and a good coach can develop your knowledge of the game.

Now if you want to be able to run your local Y, then I suggest you just buy a "Better Basketball" video, and practice on your jumper. Everybody loves a shooter.

James Naismith is from Almonte, Ontario. A town about 5 minutes away from where I grew up. They claim that basketball was invented there or at least the concept of the sport. I'll let Springfield have it though, Americans like basketball much more than Canadians do. Funny how a Canadian invented the game and another Canadian is MVP two years in a row. Trade Steve Nash to the Raps! haha

its never to late. I just statred playing for my community college. I have never played before. Softball was my sport but my school doesnt have a softball team. I trained last summer and will continue to train when this season is over so I can get better. I am being looked at by a couple of D2 schools and hopefully next year D1 schools will be looking at me. It is alot of hard work and dedication. try to play alot of pickup gaames at the parks or the gym along with learning the fundimentals that the team will teach you. If you can play street baall and organized ball you will be a well rounded player. Live eat and breathe basketball.

No. It's never to late. You will be at a disadvantage because you are without experience, but you will be able to understand fundamentals better than you would if you learned it at a younger age.
