If you take care of other things in your life, emotions follow. Make sure everything is in check.

And don't forget, a good hair day makes anyone feel great!

I learned by not doing it. I put everyone else's needs before mine... in fact, I was not even aware that I HAD emotional needs, as I was keeping myself so busy fulfilling others. Sick, eh?

The hardest thing for me to do was make time for myself. My friends and family had a hard time with this, as they really wanted me to continue on as I was. It was really difficult saying no to them. I got a journal and started writing. I took long hot bathes. I played my guitar and started painting. I slowly let people understand why I needed this time for myself.

I think it starts by valuing your feelings, not invalidating them.
