Scam are artists are so successful because most people in the world don't know how to tell them to "bugger off".
Because so many of the answers are so good.. let us subject this one to "group-think" as to which answer is best!

Because the general public is so gullible.
Let's use the current fad of 'Designer Dogs" as an example (Go on the 'dogs' section & see how many are asking about Labradoodles, Puggles, Cockapoos, etc). Someone who knows nothing about dogs in general sees some movie star/singer whom they wish to emulate on TV with a shaggy mop dog in their purse. So, they get on the internet & look to find So & So has a Maltipoo...and search for 'breeders'. They find a cutesy website that is a front for a filthy puppy mill scam artist (no reputable dog breeder pursposely mixes breeds - it is unethical, and there is no way to predict the outcome in looks or genetic health of a mix) & pay thousands for a mutt...which they could get much cheaper at their local pound, and then have also done some good by saving a dog's life. Then, AFTER they buy they get mad when they ask questions on YA (thinking they got in on the ground floor of some marvelous "new breed") & get told they got scammed. Not once before their purchase did they ask a vet his opinion on "Designer Dogs", read anything about dogs - such as the breeds in the mix they are getting's personality, exercise requirements, care & training needs, etc. They are insulted & come out swinging - to try to cover their stupidity & ignorance. They repeat to others the lies they were told by the scammers "They don't shed & are 100% hypoallergenic" - even though the AKC websites do not say that even about the breeds they are mixed from. They think some miracle of genetics took place? It is almost comical.
As long as people make uninformed knee-jerk decisions on buying things, P.T. Barnum's words will ring true. There truly is a sucker born every minute...and a scammer waiting by to suppy them!

"There is a sucker born every minute". Most people have no idea of what is happening on their computer. If a window pops up stating that there is a computer problem, download and install this immediately, they will do it. If they can have 10% of all the checks they process they will do it and brag to their friends about all the money they are going to make.
I just received an email that indicated that out of thousands of people I was selected to be a representative for a Nigerian company in the United States. It seem as though people won't send their money to Nigeria, so would I be kind enough to process the checks for them.

they are so successful because they started being scandalous when they were like 5. and theyre smart
if i were you i wouldnt try to be a scam artist.
if u are smart be a con man
but if not try sellin drugs thats how you get money

because they corner you, make you feel like **** and get all your money...THEN they drive off to their mansions in their Ferrari's that YOU paid for....its like those people on the side of the road with signs that pretend to be homeless....OR the ones that come up and tell you a long *** story about how they lost their wallett and theyre out of money and their grandpas dying in the hospital and they need to get home....sorry its just a tad bit annoying.
