The Treaty was the same treaty that ended the American Reovlution, the Treaty of Paris in 1783. The British gave the new United States the territory through negotiations during the peace process. It was as a result of battles at Fort Sackville at Vincennes and Fort Kaskaskia at present day Metropolis, Illinois
