Try to get one from the Philippines. How did you get the card? Well get the phone the same way whether you travel to the Phil or have friends there! This I know! The cellphones in the Philippines are about 4 years ahead in technology as compared to the western part of civilization. Why? I think it is their proximity to the Japanese. Also because we are all so brainwashed in believing that they are in a Third World! Duh...well we are the ones or are out of this world!

If you have a triband phone from the Philippines it will work in the US. A quad band phone will work even more places. You can buy either in the states, but you will pay a premium price for them as you would need to get one that's not in a contract and you'd need one that is unlocked. Expect around $300. You can get them from any T-Mobile store. Tell them you want to buy a phone outright and need it unlocked.

If you have time to get one shipped to you, I would look on eBay for an unlocked GSM phone. As long as it has 1900 or 1900 and 850MHz capabilities AND is unlocked, it will work in the US. A quad band phone has all of the GSM bands for everywhere in the world; 850/900/1800/1900. These are significantly cheaper on eBay and you can get a good one for less than $100.

be careful buying one in the U.S. most from t-mobile/cingular are tri band, but what bands do you need?
if you plan on using the typical tri band phone bought here it will not work in the philippines. i forget the bands but you need to make sure. i got a phone from the philippines while i was there. and it works here on the t-mobile bands mostly but not all cingular towers use the same bands as my phone. good luck sorry i can't remember the specific bands.
