No, you don't go into a sturdy doorway as another person suggested. You would still be in danger of getting hit by flying debris. Remember the thing that makes a tornado so dangerous is the things that it picks up along the way and throws at you. The safest place has been and always will be in the basement. If no basement; then into an interior room such as a bathroom or closet. Get as low to the ground as possible and cover up with a blanket.

If there is a basement level in your apartment, discuss your fears over with one or two tenants down there to make sure eveyone will have a place to go in an emergency. As well, most of the time apartments have storages in these areas. If your locker is there, then jsut go to your locker. The safest place to go is in the basement.

If you don't have a basement level, then in the bathtub with a blanket over you, or stand in a doorframe - preferably the supporting wall in your apartment. If you are unsure about which wall is your supporting wall (The one the supports the floor above you or the roof) just ask your landlord.

You can also discuss you fears with your landlord for evacuation or shelters to help you and the other tenants in the building.

Is there a basement in the apartment? How high up? Stay away from windows and stay in the middle of the apartment in a closet or bathroom in the bathtub with blankets.
