In the movie The 13th Warrior, there is a large red dog. The dog is not an Irish Setter. So, my question is, What kind of dog is it?

oh boy. i think i remember the dog you're talking about. you want to look up things about old-style "castle hounds"; some of their descendants are still about; possibly it was some variety of wolfhound, i don't know if they come in that color but they look somewhat like the one in the movie. look up european dogs.

Check out akc.org, iams.com, or puppydoginfo.com for the breed type.

BTW Micheal, He learned the language over several months of travel not in a few days. He was with them from the middle east travelling all the way back to Norway. The book explains it much better.
