I'm just curious when others have started. I'm still too small for maternity clothing, but my normal clothing is becoming too tight. I think I might try the rubber band trick in my pants for a while.

i was about 20 weeks along. But I still get away with wearing non-maternity loungewear and I'm 38 weeks. Wear what feels comfortable but don't squish your baby.

I'm 36 weeks today, and I've been able to get away with non-Maternity for the most part. It seems like maternity clothing is kind of a rip off, and it never fits me correctly. The pants are always falling down. I have been able to shop in the junior's department, buy the longer tunic-style shirts up a size or two and it has saved me SOO much money. I luckily had some "fat" pants that are a size or two larger than what I wore before, and these work perfectly for pregnancy, hitting just below my belly. Try those tricks, if you can. It will save you some money. Oh, and the rubber band trick does work. I used that until week 25-26, when I started to need the bigger size in the pants. Good luck!

I was switching back and forth between maternity and normal about about 5 months, by 6 months only maternity and stretchy sweat pants.

Are you sure that you are too small for maternity clothing? I am not sure about the selection at walmart, but the ones I got at JC Penny were very adjustable. They had an elastic band with button holes that you could stretch to the right size. After I had my baby and lost the weight I had gained, I still wore maternity jeans for a while because they were so comfortable :)

I never heard of the rubber band trick before. I would be afraid of it breaking at a bad time.

Congrats!

With my first baby I started wearing maternity clothes around the sixth month-before that I wore jogging pants, stretch pants, big shirts, etc. With my second child I wore maternity clothes around 4 months or so and stretch pants before that. With my twins I started wearing maternity clothes at the beginning of the 3rd month. I was measuring 4.5 months at that time-always measured about a month and a half bigger than I would have if I had been carrying only one baby. Hope that makes sense. Oh and JoAnn Fabrics sells a button extender that works better and is more reliable than the rubber band trick and it looks like a button so is less noticable. Congrats!

I started wearing maternity clothes when I was 4 or 5 months along. Even though I was still able to do the rubber band thing. I always wore cotton gaucho pants too -- although not flattering to all, they were the most comfortable pants ever especially when I was having morning sickness. I still wear non maternity tops though and I'm 35 weeks and 2 days.

Congrats & good luck!

it really just depends on when you need them. There comes a point when the rubber band trick will still work, but it's just not comfortable or practical. You could theoretically get away with larger sizes of regular clothes for your whole pregnancy, but they still wouldn't fit as well or be as comfortable as maternity items. They're designed to fit the pregnant body. My thought is, buy your maternity jeans early and get your money out of them. No point in being uncomfortable (or looking silly) just so you can say you never wore maternity clothes.

Well actually I haven't had to wear maternity clothing... I was 105 pounds pre-pregnancy, and just simply bought clothing in a slightly larger size... (medium in stead of small). I will tell you that the maternity bands that they sell at motherhood maternity stores are an absolutely LIFESAVER! It is a thin band (sort of looks like a tube top) that you wear over the top of your jeans so you can wear them unbuttoned... This way you can wear your pre-pregnancy pants until your butt and thighs start catching up LOL! Check it out though I promise you won't regret buying it if you do... Its only 17.00 and saved me Countless amounts of money!

I have always worked out and had a toned body, and i had to wear maternity pants at about 15 weeks. I am now 20. Let me tell you... just got ahead and stick with the rubberband trick! I bought several pairs of the maternity jeans that have that huge band all the way up your stomach... THEY ARE SOOOOO UMCOMFORTABLE and unstylish! Now maternity shirts are a must and are cute!... maybe try finding the "below the belly" maternity pants.... they are stylish and comfortable.

Buy the Bella Band it's awesome it goes over your regular unbuttoned pants and it will get you used to maternity clothes you can ever wear it after you deliver. Very comfortable! I am 23 weeks and just started wearing maternity pants, still fit in my shirts/blouses. Good luck!

I didnt change to maternity clothes until I was almost 30 weeks on both of my pregnancies. And even then didn't have to change much. Still wore my normal shirts and could wear my regular pants with the button undone. I didn't get real big with either kids.

About 21 weeks I started wearing maternity clothes for some things and now at 24 weeks I wear them pretty much for everything.
