The Yankees got the better end of the deal b/c they finally dumped the has-been. The Yankees proved that they were losers after making such a big deal of getting him. The new york media guaranteed a world series championship after he arrived. Johnson is also a loser after saying that he would not even consider a trade to the 28 other teams. It was the yankees or nobody. Yanks win the trade, but the Dbacks win the last 2 years of not having to deal with him.

The Yankees got essentially 4 players for Randy and 2 million of his salary. That's not a bad trade for the Yanks. The SS that was part of the deal is highly rated and could be a part of a trade for a starter down the road. The farm system has been restocked this off season so the Yankees won.

Both teams win. The Yankees get rid of a player and salary that were no longer needed and pick up some bullpen help. He didnt enjoy being there and I doubt the team enjoyed dealing with him. The Diamondbacks get a pitcher that may be motivated to show the Yankees they were wrong and the Diamondbacks get the support of their fans (remember R.J. was a popular player there). Plus they get the added revenue whenever Johnson is on the mound and bonus coverage for the team should he sniff out win 300. Seems like both teams should be happy regardless of the real outcome, both got benefit in the deal and that rarely happens in most trades.

I think its a very good deal for both parties, the Yankees now open up a spot in the rotation for Roger Clemens, save a huge bundle of dollars and have added a decent reliever, a nice glovesman at SS and two good pitching prospects.
The Diamondbacks get a pitcher who could dominate in the weak NL West and didn't give up a great prospects (the prospects were rated 18, 19 and 20 by Baseball America) and they get a lot of money through tickets as Arizona fans will want to go and see Randy pitch.

i think that the Yankees would come up with the better part of the deal. they got 4 young players for a 43 year-old Big Unit. As a Yankee fan, i feel he did do decent 4 us, but its good 2 c him go. i don't think that the D-backs get nothing out of this because when the Big Unit gets close 2 his 300th win, it will attract fan like crazy to a team that no one cares about.

I think really both teams won, D-backs have a decent staff anchored by Webb, Livan, Doug Davis, and now Randy. We all know the NL West isn't the greatest division and they have a pretty good staff. Yankees really just wanted to free up space for Clemens and they also got a pretty good reliever in Vizcaino. Johnson may be old but he is back in his comfort zone, New York was just to tense to him and Arizona will is laid back. I see him winning around 15 games with an era around 4.

The Yankees win as wellas the Big Unit. The Yankees because RJ proved that he is unreliable due to injury and Johnson because he still gets paid.

I think Arizona wins. Giving up a reliever and a prospect. Your prospect could fail...that is a complete gamble. A releive is nice to have...but a quality starter is more valueable (why the tend to get paid more). Randy Johnson may have had a couple bad year, but people can come out of those. Nolan Ryan was still effective until his 50's. Also, Arizona did not really want to give him up in the first place. They simply did not have the bargining power the Yankees did. In my evil anti-Yankee way, hope that Randy Johnson goes lights out in '07.

As of appropriate now, I say no. i think of the ny papers are feeding off of another of their rumor mongering. all of them say an identical element.. the deal seems to be carried out, and the only element that truly desires to be carried out now could be argue over the quantity of funds that the Yankees will conceal, and on an extension. If the Diamondbacks DO supply up what the Yankees are asking for, they are going to truthfully remorseful approximately it. Johnson sported a 5.00 era after the all-superstar destroy final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, is a three hundred and sixty 5 days older, and has lost command of his slider. he's not the dominant pitcher he became 3 years in the past. i think of he will stay a Yankee for next season and then retire on the tip of the 07' 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. He might sign a one 3 hundred and sixty 5 days deal someplace yet I do only not see him with the flexibility to pitch that lots longer.r

Put the win in the Yankees column.
Lots of potential for the mid summer trade deadline if something isn't working right.
