I liked "The Thing" which kind of falls into Sci-Fi, I also like The Blair Witch Project, although a ton of people hated it, just as many were scared ****less. Going in as a horror movie vet I had never had anything scare me, not even The Exorcist. Well Blair Witch Project is the only movie that can boast that it had me about ready to leave the theater.

Don't watch The Grudge...it sucks

Go for an old one, like The Exorcist, or Nightmare on Elm Street

if you want something recent, the first Saw, although more suspense than anything was good

Not sure if these are horror movies but they scared the crap out of me: The descent (this movie made me wish I didn't go see it!), the ring, Donnie darko (creepy & confusing), below (a very small film but it was really freaky), the experiment (german film), wolf creek (set in aussie outback), Dario Argento films (he's a director), carrie (old version). These should keep you scared for a bit unless you've seen them all.

The Saw trilogy was good. And yes the Britney Spears movie was pretty hard to watch.
