We are buying a house and have a 30 day escrow, but are not exactly sure of the move out date. This is a small complex and we are on good terms with the landlord, so I can't see there being any problems, but I want to cover myself in writing also if we have to stay an extra week or so.

I have helped many of my residents with this, it is hard, but there is a really easy way about this. A lease states a 30 day notice, but u can give a 45 day notice or more, it just must be at least 30 days, but no rule says it cant be a longer notice. Go to the office explain u r not real sure of the closing date on ur home, so add a week or more to ur notice, if u can move sooner u would have fulfilled the 30 day notice, and by giving a longer notice and talking to the mger. he or she will know not to prelease the apt. to soon, if u have to stay a week or more after ur 30 days you will just pay the prorated rent for that time, remember prorated rent is due just like any other month on time so fees r not added. Also to help ur manager keep he or she informed, as soon as u r told ur closing date tell the office ur move out date so they can have a better chance to prelease. Good luck in ur new home!!!

Go talk to the landlord first and explain your situation then put in writing the content of your discussion to make it official.

Its best to talk to them first. If your on good terms, there should be no problems. Then put what was said in writing and submit it right away. Congrats on your purchase!!

in your notice, request a day to day extension if required... and state that you are willing to pay a daily rate in return
