Usually near the end of the 8th week the intestines begin to recede into the body cavity within the umbilical cord. This process takes awhile and usually ends at around the 10-12th week.
I don't think it would be outside the realm of possibility to have it take a little longer. Every normal baby starts out this way (with the intestines on the outside).

Please don't worry yourself it is not good for the baby. Regarding the baby's intestines being on the out side if your midwife has told you not to worry then don't.The worst case would be the baby is born with the intestines on the out side but doctors can perform great things they put the intestines in a sack and slowly push them back in to baby. but that would be the worst thing. However the midwife told you not to worry so please try not to. (I know it is easier said than done) I wise you all the luck in the world to you and your baby.

ok..well...the baby's skin is translucant at the mo so u can very clearly see everything inside. my big sister was actually born with her intestines out side! highly gross when u c the pictures, buts she's now 23, acting like a moody teenager, and perfectly healthy! the op took about an hour and instead of coming home with her twin brother she came home 3 days after him. apparently its quite common! don't worry, either way ur baby will be perfect

You should call your doctor and ask her. That's what she's there for and you don't want to be stressing out until your next appointment! Hope everything goes well!!
