My icons on the desktop disappered. I was cleaning my PC with CCleaner, then restarted the PC couple of times and they gone. The programmes are running OK, I have no viruses. I tried so many things, no effect..Seems my PC's desktop properties do not work ( or I have had them) as after right clicking on the desktop, I can't go to the Properties. Please, I will be very grateful to anyone with practicle advice..Thanks

Just in case its their position (off screen), try right-clicking the desktop and selecting 'arrange icons by', 'name'.

If that doesn't bring them back to their normal positions...

You might try restoring your windows registry (all you program settings) to the way it was a day or two ago.

Go to Start button, Help and support, "Undo changes to your computer with System Restore".

Well.. I had similar incidentes, but not all my icons vanished. try this. You can reinstall your windows if you still have the original startup disk that came wiht the PC. Or..use the right mouse btn. This is a temporary fix, U can use this step. 1-right mouse click the start butn. click explore, 3- then hit simotaneoulsy the control button on the key board and the letter F, thats your FIND screen, then look(search) for all your favorite programs icons and the leave some room showing you desk top, because that is where you will be clicking and draging this new shortcut to the desktop. If that fails , go to www. cdw .com they can help too., good luck.

The icons on the desktop can also accidently be removed by a right click under the 'Arrange Icons By' menu. Right click on the desktop and look under the 'Arrange Icons By' and assure that the "Show Desktop Icons" line is checked.

If you are running Windows XP you may try utilizing the System Restore option to return your PC to a point in time when the icons were on your desktop.

Mine is located under Programs > accessories > system tools > System restore

I know why. All those icon on the desktop are shortcuts to the actual program links. Reason why they disappear is because they are invalid shortcuts. So ccleaner had detected them as invalid shortcuts to the program. This is normal.

Try to right click and then then look at the menu for arrange icons. Look further down and make sure "show desktop icons" is checked off. Good luck.

go to start. can you find them there? if not, try calling tech support or also try restarting the computer a few times. can you still access the programs? if so, right click while on the program and then select set as desktop item

good luck!

Go to your start menu, then go to my documents, to the left will be a menu that says either network places, or other places. Click that. Then it will say desktop on the left, click on that, and it will show you everything that should be on your desktop, and you may have to move it all back to the regular desktop. if that doesn't work, try doing a system restore if you have a system that supports that.

Click on Start/All programs/ Accessories/System Tools/System restore and I would click the day before you did the cleaning and it should bring it all back. Till you figure out what your trying to do.
