isass.exe (with small or capital "i") is registered as the Optix.Pro virus which carries in it's payload, the ability to disable firewalls and local security protections, and a backdoor capability.

lsass.exe (with lowercase l) is a system process of the Microsoft Windows security mechanisms. It specifically deals with local security and login policies. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

Lsass.exe is the executable used for security by Windows NT, 2000, and XP. It is not a virus. Symantec is referring to viruses that take advantage or cause problems with Lsass.exe
